The MasterMinds behind Fortress Entertainment
Ever been to a club or house party and wondered who ran the show (Tweet This)? It’s these guys, Founder and CEO Asher Kline and Co-Founder Kirk Roberts of Fortress Entertainment. Fortress Entertainment is Chicago’s new home for premiere events with plans to move into concerts, yacht parties, and festivals. If I had to describe the company in one word it would be boundless. There is no set genre or ethnicity Fortress wants to reach. “We want to reach anybody and everybody to ensure they have a good time.” Co-founder Kirk Roberts served four years in the United States Navy as the military police. He briefly played college football for the University of Illinois before tearing his ACL. Now, he’s pursuing an MBA at Roosevelt University while working on hosting top-tier concerts and yacht parties.
Kirk’s goal is to have a net worth of $1 million by 28 years old
Founder and CEO Asher Kline is currently enrolled at Columbia College Chicago as a music business major. Since Asher was a teenager, he has been interested in the club scene and how it’s run. He is now working towards becoming an owner of one of Chicago’s most prestigious nightlife venues. Their combined experiences and common goals are a great match for the promising Fortress Entertainment.
I reached out to interview these two because they embody Young Wealth Builders. Although they are still in school, they are focused on growing their business from the night life. Me being the curious guy that I am, had some questions for them.
Q: So, How did you guys get started with Fortress Entertainment?
A: We both unknowingly threw parties in our separate downtown condos. A mutual friend introduced us and from there we began planning to throw a joint party. The turnout from the event was absolutely massive and from there we decided we would start an actual entertainment company.
Q: It’s cool that you guys joined forces for the greater good! So how do you guys make money exactly?
A:Without giving away all of our secrets haha, We pretty much make money based off the people. If people come out and have a great time and later come back with their friends, we have made money. Not only that, we fulfilled our goal as a company. Here at Fortress we’re all about the people, we know people have hard lives, jobs, etc. To address that issue we provide a plethora of opportunities for people. We want them to come out and have a great time with drinks and amazing music played by our outstanding DJ’s.
Q: It’s good to hear you two are not just doing it for the money, but for people to have a good time. As you know there are a number of obstacles businesses face. What are some of the obstacles you guys have faced and are currently facing?
A: One problem we’ve faced as owners of Fortress is constructing the perfect team to assist us with events. Another is not allowing our friends into the events for free haha. So far everything has been running pretty smoothly and we’ve gained quite a bit of traction over the short span of time.
Q: I’m glad you guys said that, I think many people leave out the amount of effort it takes to assemble a great team. How long did it take you guys to put the pieces in place?
A: To be honest I’m not really sure. Everything just kind of fell into place and we’ve remained humble, grateful, and consistent. I’d say in a field like this it’s all about the vibes, you really want to send nothing but good vibes to the people you are trying to reach and the only way to do that is to construct a team with the same ideals. It also takes being able to make hard decisions and really going with your gut.
Q: Many businesses in your field have their own competitive advantage, what do you think sets you apart from other related businesses?
A: What sets us apart is that we come with a full team of security, DJs, promotors and our lovely Fortress angels. Our level of professionalism greatly exceeds the age of our company and also we like to target the “little guy” so to speak. What we mean by that is that we prefer to host up and coming music artists and DJs.
Q: I’m glad you guys are looking out for the “little guys”. It’s great knowing that as your business grows you are creating opportunities for others. Speaking of growth, where do you see your business in 5 years?
A: In five years we will be, if not the biggest, one of the top promotion companies in Chicago hosting everything from fund raisers to concerts.
Q: Do you plan on venturing into other areas of entertainment?
A: Absolutely. Towards the end of the summer we plan on throwing a yacht party as well as concerts and a music fest next summer.
Q: Thanks again for allowing me the chance to interview you guys, glad to see two Young Wealth Builders grinding to accomplish their goals. Where can everyone reach you two?
A: We can be reached via email firstname.lastname@example.org, our Facebook: Fortress Entertainment, Instagram: @WeAreTheFort, Personal Instagram’s: Kirk Roberts: @Mr_Roberts_ and Asher Kline: @cornwhiskeykline.
